What counts as living away from home?

Does it still count as living away from home if you’re living in your home city, with your partner’s family, not paying full rent.

Hi there next year I’m wanting to rent a house in my home town 40 minutes away from my university. I don’t speak to my parents I am wanting to rent with my boyfriend he is 20 and I am 19. My parents income is under 25? Would I still be granted a high loan and is it classed as living away from home.

Hi elizrenard,

You can potentially apply as an Independent student under Estrangement if you have no contact with your parents. You will need to complete a Confirmation of Estrangement form when you make your new application. If this is accepted then you will be awarded the maximum income assessed maintenance loan.
