David Kolb-

He suggests that learning is an integrated process where each individual stage becomes mutually supportive of and then feeds into the next stage. One by one

Kolb said that he believes it is possible to enter the cycle at any stage and follow it through its logical sequence. Kolb’s model of learning consists of 4 stages in total-

The four stages are as below -

Stage 1 this is the Concrete Experience: the first stage of learning is to have the learning experience. Such as watching child watching me putting wooden blocks on top of each other. Putting the blocks on top of eachother together then stepping back to allow child to independently learn and do.

Stage 2 - Observing and Reflection: Here learners are encouraged to reflect on what they learnt, how and why they learnt it and whether the experience could have been improved on what happened how did it look work fit together. Did the child copy? Could I show the children a better way?

Stage 3 Forming Abstract Concepts: using other experiences as a form of reference, and using other modes and models of thinking to inform your ideas. Can I build a square? A house

Stage 4 Testing the Learning in New Situations: this is the final stage and involves the placement of the learnt material into context within own life. If this doesn’t happen it is likely that the new knowledge will be forgotten quickly. The learner should also think about implementing the knowledge and how they can make the next learning experience more beneficial.
Adding different materials shapes sizes.

Graham Gibb’s reflective cycle is a process this involves six steps.

1. Description what happened? How did it go

2. Feelings what did you think and feel about it? Was it a positive experience or negative.? Did it achieve goals or a learning experience did if feel fun and interesting

3. Evaluation what were the positives and negatives? Was this a happy joyful experience

4. Analysis what sense can you make of it? Di the child have a understanding

5. Conclusion what else could you have done? Thinking about using different materials environment. Outside inside. Change of face.

6. Action plan what will you do next time? Different Options making it harder and a little different to progress

The last stage will feed back into the first stage, making the process a ‘cycle’. The reflective learning cycle is a never-ending process; so the learner does not stop learning and continues to reflect on their practice and continue different methods for learning opportunities for the child to develop.
