Is a Phd necessary for a good role in quantitative finance?

Hi, I was thinking of doing a masters in a computational finance related degree and wanted to ask whether this is actually enough (with relevant internships) to become a quantitative analyst/trader, as I see a lot of them have PhDs nowadays, and if it enough what main big firms hire a larger proportion of non PhD students compared to other firms. Thanks.

For quant trading at places like Jane Street, Optiver, SIG etc you can get in with just a Bachelors although Quant research usually requires a masters or Phd
