casually die, speak to a few pretty cool scientists, casually come back and use the knowledge they've given you

Freeze time and read all the books in the world XD. Otherwise, study study study and more studying. Aim as high as you can, no matter how impossible it might seem, because even if you don't get what you aimed for you'll probably try harder than if you didn't. Go to some great uni like Oxford and meet as many geniuses as possible and learn from them as much as you can. But, still live life happily. Don't turn into some sort of drone with no emotions. That would suck, for everybody.
This is just general advice by the way, don't take my word for it, I have no such experiences, I'm only 16, haven't even finished my GCSE's yet (:
