Adjustment VS Clearing - What are the differences?

I know that Adjustment is specifically for if you do better than the course you expected, and you want to aim for a university with higher entry requirements. However is there an actual difference it has from clearing? Is it possible that with Adjustment you could maybe apply to courses that aren't vacant for clearing?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

UCAS ditched Adjustment a few years ago (at least two), because it really didn't get a lot of use. Now, if you do better than you expected and want to "upgrade" your uni / course, you need to decline the confirmed place you have and drop into Clearing, hoping to secure a "better" place that way. It's quite risky, I'd say.

Edited to add that this page on the UCAS site confirms that "Adjustment is no longer available from 2022 entry." So it was last available for 2021 entry.

There is nothing to stop you contacting any University on Results Day morning to see if they are interested in you - you do not have to decline any other place to 'just talk to a Uni'.
