Hi there @ClemmieSilk

There are many students in University that do not drink, so I would not worry about that at all.

You can meet new people from your accommodation, your classes etc.

I would also recommend going to the fresher's fair- this is where all the University's soceities will be displaying their society and events. I think joining societies is definitely a good way of making friends.

I hope this helps.

Hello!

Joining societies that you're particularly interested in is the best way to make friends, as you can get to know each other over common interests. Also, another way is through your course, the people you sit next to in lectures or the people that are in the same seminar/tutorial groups as you.

Hey,

Even if you don't drink, it's wonderful that you're thinking about establishing friends at university. Without alcohol, there are many of ways to interact with people and have a great social experience.

Most universities feature a diverse selection of clubs and societies, ranging from sports and hobbies to academic and cultural pursuits. Joining these clubs is a great opportunity to meet individuals who share your interests. I did the exact same thing. Keep an eye out for university-sponsored events that do not involve alcohol. Many college campuses organise movie evenings, gaming nights, art exhibitions, and other events. These can be excellent opportunities for socialising.

I believe in getting involved in volunteer or community service. It's a fantastic way to meet people who are passionate about making a difference. Creating or joining study groups is a terrific approach to not only improve academically but also to make friends with peers who share similar academic interests.

When you meet someone who has a similar passion or interest, propose doing it together. Shared activities, whether hiking, playing a musical instrument, or painting, can provide a solid foundation for friendships. University frequently hosts workshops and seminars on a wide range of topics. These gatherings can be intellectually interesting and provide opportunity to engage with others who share similar interests. Introduce yourself to your neighbours if you live in a dorm or shared accommodation. Lifelong friendships might sometimes begin with a simply "hello." I believe Don't eat by yourself! Join others in the dining hall or meet a classmate for coffee. Conversations over meals can lead to important connections.

Many universities have student online forums or social media organisations. Join these platforms to interact with your classmates and stay up to date on campus events. Make eye contact, smile, and engage in conversation with everyone you meet. Making new acquaintances requires approachability.

Remember that building friends takes time, so be patient. When it comes to friendships, it's all about quality over quantity. Be yourself, be real, and you'll meet individuals who value your company. Your university experience is more than simply the classes you take; it is also about the people you meet along the road. Have fun on this wonderful journey!

I hope this is helpful.

Hi! Congratulations on getting into university!
In my opinion the best way to make friends if you don't drink (or even if you do) is to get involved with as many events and clubs as you can at the start of the semester. This way you meet a variety of people and can really find your group. Additionally, speak to people on your course, sit next to different people and eventually you will find your friends.
Hope this helps! Faye
