Hi I’ll be coming to Leicester to study medical genetics in September, I applied through clearing and I’m really not sure what to do with accommodation, could you please recommend some? I’ll hopefully be able to come to the open day on the 9th September.

Congratulation on your offer to study with us in September! We can't wait to meet you. We have a range of different accommodation types, varying in price range at the University of Leicester.
Our two main university managed accommodation are the Village, based in Oadby, which has a range of student halls, vintage houses and beautiful greenery and the City, which has a range of student halls right next to our main campus and the city centre. Both accommodations are great for students of all ages to socialise, study and experience Leicester as a University and as a place to call home. You can view all of our accommodations on our website, including a virtual tour!

Hi, I'm applying for MSc Advanced comuter science but i'am unsure whether to take placement year or not.
Can you tell me what happens if we are unable to secure a job/internship during placement year? Can we drop placement year later during first year and alternatively can we add placement year later in first year?

Hi SunFyre!
I am currently doing a placement and if you do not get a placement, then you automatically go into your next year of study. The only difference is that when you are awarded your degree, it will be titled MSc Advanced Computing instead of MSc Advanced Computing with a Year in Industry.
You can decide not to do the placement year, but if you want to, then you can start applying and get one. I only wanted to do one near the end of my 2nd year, but I managed to get one in the end so there is nothing to worry about!

Just to add-on , on my previous comment I had already applied for couples of accomodation nearer to the Village area . I had applied on 30 November 2023 .
So how long should I wait from the university accomodation team to hear some response on my application.
As I am quite nearer to my course start (8 Jan 2024 ) and also need to assemble my documents for the VISA as well.
Do you have any idea about this?

I am also thinking of MFL in Leicester ( insurance) and strangely can't book accomodation since it is not firm ( what a silly rule) other Unis hv allowed to book even tho insurance

So I am currently studying psychology at Leicester and on my placement year. However there is an opportunity to study abroad after your second year, which you can read more about here. If you are curious about placements abroad specifically there are some abroad summer internships that are advertised in spring time during your course. Speak to your lecturers about any upcoming opportunities for a placement abroad.
