Alternatives for further maths

I want to study Economics at uni but some unis I want to apply to have a preference for students who take further maths. My college offers it but if I took it my maths grade would probably go down. Is there any alternative or do I risk taking 1 year of further maths?

'Prefer' does mean 'Its essential that all applicants have it'.
Check with the Uni if they will accept your application without FM

On their websites it says that it is not required but is preferable. I have also attended talks for economics at different unis and they say the same when asked about colleges who do not offer it and only suggested online courses (not any specific ones which I'm struggling to find). I'm just concerned that because my college does offer it whether me not taking it will decrease my chances of getting in
