Sutton Trust Pathway or Summer School?

I am considering to go the sutton trust pathways to banking and finance in the university of liverpool. However if I applied for that I cannot apply for the sutton trust residential summer school.
It will take me around 2 hours to get there by train or 1-hour drive from my house.
I am not really interested in University of Liverpool, and I would rather go to other university.
I really want to apply for the summer school in Cambridge, but it will definitely be very competitive, and I might not get in even I gave up the chance to go Sutton Trust pathways.
Is there anyone been to the pathways or the summer school, how's it like and which one can I gain more from and more worthwhile to go?
