Japanese and English - Birkbeck

Has anyone studied Japanese and English at birkbeck? As a beginner? If so, do you think the amount of Japanese studied would be sufficient to become a translator? I would like to translate mangas and I read that I need to be able to succeed in the jlpt (N1 or N2) but I'm not sure if the Japanese studied in this course would suffice.
