Travel question

Going on a plane for the first time (travelling with British Airways). Want to know if a tote bag/large handbag counts as hand luggage/personal item? Can’t find an answer to this anywhere.

I recently flew British Airways, so I can say that if you have a suitcase up to 23 kg in weight and Up to 56 x 45 x 25cm, then you can take it on board. I have a set of suitcases of different sizes from Showkoo so that I can choose the right option for different airlines.
