Kingston first year social life

Hi, Wondering if anyone has anything to share about the social aspect of Kingston Uni. Concerns are that the halls are quite spread out across the area and Kingston itself quite a small neighbourhood especially where the Arts school is located.
Do students tend to go into central London for nights out over staying local? Do the campuses mix? Love the uni for the facilities and course but wondering if it might be a quieter, less social experience?

Hi there @Suebydoo , regarding your question on the social experience in Kingston, I personally think that there are plenty of opportunities and ways to socialise with people outside your specific course, hall or campus! Many activities are organised during Welcome Week, such as the Freshers Fair, talks and events by KUextra, and socials and parties planned by the Res Life team at your respective Halls of Residence!

I would say joining a Society would be the easiest way to meet people outside of your course or campus! Kingston's School of Art (Knights Park Campus) also has a Student Union Bar, where students can grab a pint or snack and chat by the river! Personally I made a lot of friend through the Student Ambassador programme, where I got to work alongside many different people from diverse backgrounds and courses during university events! Depending on your preference, there are many small pubs and independent restaurants where I can easily have a night out with friends but going to central London is also an option for specific music events or parties!

I heard it’s difficult to make friends as a very high proportion of students are commuting from home, so it’s difficult to make on campus friends and get people to frequently socialise with outside of classes
