DSA Query

Hey, I haven't used this site in a while, hope this is an appropriate question. I'm currently in my second year of uni. I'm eligible for the DSA and in the process of booking an assessment, but am curious what support they can offer - I have some ideas of what would help me but don't want to miss out on any opportunities I didn't know existed. If anybody is comfortable sharing, what kind of support can be requested for low-support-needs ASD from the DSA? Is there anything they'd refuse to give? What is the most useful support they've offered someone? etc. Any info would be much appreciated
Hi,

I have received DSA for ADHD. From my experience they tend to give you support regarding how the disability or condition affects you while studying at uni, and don’t just solely focus on the diagnosis.

I can’t remember everything that I received but some of it included a printer, ink allowance for the printer and a recording device.

Here’s a useful link to the GOV.UK website that has some helpful information on DSA.

Thanks for the information! I didn't know they could offer allowances for certain things (e.g. ink), that's very useful to know.

Hi 🙂 I would think your needs assessor would recommend a Specialist Mentor who can support you through your university journey. The Specialist Mentor is specifically qualified and trained to work with students on the autistic spectrum. I would go to your needs assessment with an idea of the kind of provider you want to be allocated to as they just tend to dish students out to large agencies instead of the smaller providers who actually care about their students! Let me know if you need help with this - I can definitely make recommendations🙂
