MS Business analytics from Kent or Aston university

Hi There,
I've received unconditional acceptance letter from Aston , for masters in business analytics, which I'm really excited about. Also i have received acceptance letters from other universities like Nottingham Trent, Heriot Watt, University of Hertfordshire, Queen's University Belfast, and the University of Kent. Could you help me out with info on these? I'm mostly looking at which one offers good job placements, gives a good return on what I invest, lets me work part-time etc. Thanks a lot!

Hi @sidd11,

I hope you're keeping well.

Congratulations on your multiple acceptance letters! And may I say, you have a great list of choices!
I'll speak a bit about Kent (bit biased I know, forgive me) since it's the one I know most about to help you.

Course: MSc Business Analytics program at Kent provides a rigorous and practical curriculum, equipping you with all the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in this dynamic field. You'll delve into areas like data analysis, predictive modeling & forecasting, and machine learning, utilising industry-standard software and tools like Python, R, and SQL. As I said - rigorous. It's a Triple Crown Business School which places a lot of focus on the quantitative side of finance, whilst still teaching about other necessary business elements that are needed to carry you to the job-market securely. We have a lot of alumni here at Kent who have not only worked in banks such as Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, and the Central Bank in Monetary Policy, but who also return to give talks to current students about what they can expect and how to prepare!

Support: Honestly though, the best thing that I truly love about this University though is the amount of support which it provides it's students with. It's an incredibly underrated factor, however, for me it's been instrumental in helping my academic life evolve and improve since I joined. I mean this in the sense that most major classes will have drop-in sessions, whereby it's really just an hour of questioning your lecturer. You also have consultation hours with ALL professors, which is where professors have to drop everything they do and converse with you about any questions you may have, as well as you having your own academic advisor - who are staff with specialised knowledge in your area of study whom you can contact to support you, if need be.The University here also has a whole host of support departments which are around to give you necessary help, such as Mental Health Support. Work Opportunity and Job Searching Support, Academic Support, etc.

Location: Alongside all that, Canterbury is an incredibly beautiful place to live in, rich in history and culture, which luckily also happens to be a relatively close to relaxing coastal areas such as Whistable, Herne Bay, and Margate, making it an incredibly cozy and stunning place to stay at. Also, due its proximity to London, is becoming more of a commuter city to the capital as more links establish, which makes sense considering its about an hour away from Victoria by train. Many of my peers will regularly travel to London for the weekend simply to go to networking events for the fun of it! (Aka. we get the perks of London without having to live in a cramped, noisy, small 1 bedroom apartment!!)

Job/Internship Opportunity: Kent actively aids students in securing work experience and graduate positions. The dedicated careers team hosts career fairs, workshops, and individual consultations, equipping you with job-seeking skills and resume-building strategies. The university's strong industry connections often translate into internship opportunities with prestigious companies like IBM, Accenture, and Deloitte. Additionally, Canterbury's proximity to London opens doors to internships and post-graduation roles in the heart of the UK's financial district.
As for part-time work, the University is also great at offering students different jobs and roles to help and support them financially whilst studying. That ranges from Outreach jobs (teaching and inspiring children from around the County), to research assistant roles, to ambassdorial jobs, etc. - and then also anything else, via Jobshop. Also around the city, you'll see business wanting to hire students as waiters, cashiers, your typical part-time roles that you'd find in cities!

Campus: Campus is very cozy, with a very friendly atmosphere. In my opinion, it's rural enough that's its peaceful and green (you'll see many rabbits, birds, squirrels, and the like) - but close enough to the city that you can get what's necessary. There are so many welcoming societies here, all of which would be more than hapy to take you in!

KBS: Sibson, the home of KBS and Economics, is an award-winning building which hosts a Bloomberg Suite, Computer labs, breakout spaces, student meeting areas, dedicated MBA suite, modern seminar rooms, multiple lecture theatres, a big atrium for conference and meeting events, and an ASPIRE lab. You'll often see students studying all around, or just sitting comfortably whilst waiting for friends or lectures to start - it's a really comforting environment there. Plus, the building has a nice little cafe for coffee breaks as a cherry on top. All that's to say, you will have all the essential tools you need to build up yourself up and succeed during your course!

Anyways, I'm very sorry for writing a lot, but I do honestly feel as though Kent would be a great place for you to study, given your interest in learning. It has been for me afterall!

Anyways, I hope this has helped somewhat.
If you do have any more questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

Warm regards,

David

Hi @sidd11,

Congratulations on all your unconditional offers that's fantastic news! I’m a current student at Herts, so I can shed some light on what I know about the University of Hertfordshire.

Hertfordshire Business School has strong ties with major industry players like Google, Ocado, Marriott Hotels, and Lloyds Bank, offering various opportunities such as guest lectures, career fairs, and work placements. Plus, being close to London, you'll have access to its resources without the hefty living costs, making it an ideal location.

In terms of recognition, our university has been ranked 1st in the UK for postgraduate taught experience and 2nd overall in the Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey. Furthermore, we're proud to be in the top 25% of UK universities for business and management research impact.

As for job placements, our previous postgraduates have landed roles in esteemed companies like HSBC, Accenture, Royal Mail, Amazon, and more, thanks to our strong industry connections and industry-accredited courses.

The University of Hertfordshire has a very supportive atmosphere and excellent student services, including job placement support and flexibility for part-time work, which ensures a rewarding return on your investment.

Good luck with your decision-making process, and I wish you all the success ahead!
