Aussie police uninvited from Mardi Gras after double homicide

Whilst details are still emerging on this one, prima facie, whilst a terrible crime it does still seem to have been a simple 'crime of passion' as opposed to some form of hate crime.. notably because the killer, whilst a serving officer, was the ex boyfriend of one of the victims.
To me it does give me a head scratch as to why the police writ-large are being blamed (aside from allowing off duty officers guns) as its, at present, clearly not a hate crime.
What does everyone else think, im curious if anyone agrees with the decision to ban (most) police from the event and if so why?

I have provided an alternative link as the BBC is not a credible nor trustworthy news source.

This is the best thing that could have happened, frankly. The truth of the matter is that this was a domestic murder that they are trying to turn into a Sarah Everard situation. A gay man kills another gay man, but because he's a police officer, its used as an excuse to get political.

Obviously, there is no power by the organisers to "ban" police from policing a parade. What is actually happening is that they are being disinvited from participating in the parade.

Great news.

Police have absolutely no business doing so in the first place, and its only because of activists within the police and weak leadership that this kind of thing has happened in the past. I would question what value there is of police taking part in any parade or street carnival/party of any kind.
No serving police officer or any police staff member should be permitted to participate in any parades and similar public celebrations.
Their role within the context of such events should be restricted to providing security wearing their uniforms and preventing & detecting crime either in plain clothes or in uniform.
Gay pride march organisers in Sydney make a decision with support from the gay community in that region, and somehow these in another country feel they need to express how that decision is wrong despite not being involved or affected whatsoever by it. While also ignoring the very salient fact that the murderer in question killed his ex-boyfriend and his ex-boyfriend's new partner using his service weapon.

You just can't make it up.

What you can't make up is that you are telling other people on an internet forum that they shouldn't have opinions on anything outside their own country because it doesn't affect them.

It's almost like you don't want discussion boards to be for discussion.
