I have been set the task of asking you fine people what the strongest cheddar cheese that can be found in most supermarkets is?
Apparently a few of these so called " extra mature" ones are total failures, their not crumbly(really mature cheese is I have been informed) and their NOT THAT MATURE/STRONG TASTING!!
I don't like strong cheeses so I am of no help but If we, together, AS A SUPER TEAM, do not come up with an answer soon I will pay the price!
So yeah if your an experienced cheeseonaire(made that up...) please provide your input on some seriously mature crumbly cheddar cheeses!
My advice (providing you're over 18), is to go to some cheese & wine nights to taste what is out there.
sorry if I didn't make it clear in my post, this isn't for me, I don't like strong cheese.
OMG GUYS LOOOOOOOOOOK!!!!
ok that got your attention. I have edited my first post but can't change the title, I forgot other cheeses existed, I mean seriously strong/mature cheddar.
Fair call, we are and rightfully should be; ashamed.
You're not going to find one in the supermarket, probably. As I said before, have a look at some cheese and wine evenings and you might find some winners (most focus more on the wine, so don't book cheap).

oh gosh sorry!
The BIG LOOOK! doesn't mean "omg please can you read properly next time"
it was to get your attention so you'd read the bit underneath, which says I forgot I meant strong cheddar not just a strong type of cheese.
I really like Canadian Extra Mature. It's the strongest that i've found on the shelf, but perhaps you could go to the cheese part of Tesco's and try a few, then buy the one you like the least?
Well you won't find it in any supermarkets, but I've heard that casu marzu can knock out a fully-grown man.
Ew. I saw this on The F Word. Apparently you can get really ill from it, as a lot of the larvae can survive stomach acid and cause lacerations in your digestive system. Gross.
I'm sardinian and I can tell you that I've never heard of someone who's been ill eating casu marzu...probably it's a bit hard to digest but nothing more...
