Help with using PDA's for c/c++ programming for an Open University course MT262
Hello I'm thinking of buying a PDA to help me with Open University
collage course MT262. The course is bases around the C/C++ high level
programming language to write computer programmes for which there is no
off the shelf applications. I'm hoping to use a PDA at work, on the bus
etc to help me build my sub-programmes. I've read somewhere that you
could get C or C++ tools and compilers for handhelds but as yet I've not
found any. I'm a total novice in the field of PDA and I would be
grateful to hear from anybody who's using one for a similar application.
Also if anyone could offer some advice for which PDA would suit my
application and where I might obtain the software (names etc)

Developing for PDAs is totally different from developing applications
for the desktop ... you can learn the underlying language
C/C++ etc. but API calls etc. will be different.
Do you want to be able to program for your desktop on your handheld ? Or
do you want to program on your handheld for your handheld ?

Jason,
I did MT262 in 2000. The majority of the programming stuff you do
involves using specific classes that are either provided by the course
team or part of Borland C++ (they won't translate to the PDA
environment). The only use I found for my PDA (a palm) during that
course was for making notes in work of snippets of code that sprung to
mind while at work. I never complied and ran anything on my pda.
The second half of the course is predominantly windows programming which
involve classes you won't find on a pda.
I hope you enjoy the course though. It is a great course, I was new to
programming and found it a lot easier than I expected.

A PDA will not help as the course is based around Borland C++ Builder
which is a PC product. The first two blocks deal with programs which run
in a DOS box, then they go on to visual programming.
The PDA (if a suitable one is available) *might* help with the first
part, but not the second.
Your software will be arriving soon.... ;-)

A PDA will not help as the course is based around Borland C++ Builder
