Why would anyone actually vote Conservative?

Their entire election campaign was just demeaning the opposition based on appearance of all things, like playground :dolphin::dolphin::dolphin::dolphin:ing bullying on a bigger scale.

The only policies they ever had going for them were their economic policies, which have failed spectacularly.

They're completely anti-science to the point that they're trying to pass legislation to ban scientists from speaking publicly about research the Conservatives disagree with.

They're careerist politicians that have turned British politics into an embarrassing power play.

They haven't done a single good thing in the last 6 years, and don't intend to.

Why would you vote for these morons????

biggest problem was Labour appeared that pathetic, people voted for conservatives. Plus the financial crisis and the expansion of credit, people think voting right wing will mean they get on in life. When in reality it's just higher inequality, higher taxes and bigger cuts in public services.

Mistrust/lack of confidence with labour + doubt that a vote for any of the other parties means anything.
Plus a lot of people have voted con for a long time and will see no reason to change. For (many of) the wealthy and the disinterested they must seem like a safe bet.

Labour only appeared pathetic because of the media smear campaign against them. I never really understood how people couldn't see through that.
I voted Conservative almost exclusively on the basis of economic policy. It was what mattered to me most, given the current state of global economic affairs, and Labour's economic policy was decidedly lacklustre. And probably even more important, I would far rather have the countries economy in the hands of George Osborne than Ed Balls. And I will probably continue to vote Conservative at the next election, because Labour's economic policy is now even more laughable, and their shadow chancellor even less reputable.

You need a good relationship with Murdoch to have any chance of winning.

Because people who earn high salaries should be allowed to keep them and not have almost half of them taken and distributed to people who simply cannot be arsed to work and see the tax payer as there slave? Maybe JUST maybe that is the reason why people vote conservative. Not sure though :colonhash:

Though a significant proportion of tax goes to benefits it is a minority amount. Even if almost half of someone's money was taken by the government, a fair bit less than half of that would go to benefits and a far smaller relative proportion of benefits recipients are people who "cannot be arsed to work".
Fear of the alternatives. Selfishness. If they believe all they read in the Daily Mail (the paper that supported the Blackshirts).

They promised an eu referendum.

It is the biggest proportion, the second biggest goes to the NHS and third goes to state pension. So again i stick with my thesis

Yes, the biggest individual proportion...but a minority with regards to the total tax. For instance, going by this (slightly old) article http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/10106437/Revealed-how-much-you-pay-towards-benefit-bill.html
someone earning 1,000,000 will be taxed nearly half of their income, but only around 17% of their income goes towards benefits (and this is around around 36% of their total taxation money)

But I wouldn't disagree that, whatever the exact proportions are, people are wary of labour increasing taxes/spending more money on welfare

edit: well actually I'm referring to welfare and pensions not just welfare

Because Labour make me sick. :h:
Labour mobilise the Muslim bloc vote which means more favourable policies towards immigrants who will be the future of the party. It's a no from me
It's quite simple.

Conservatives aim to help and enable to people to be free to aspire and succeed in life for themselves.

Labour however have the very misguided aim of trying to provide everything for everyone regardless of merit/effort, and regardless of the economic impossibility. I don't deny they have some noble aims, but they have absolutely no common sense about it.
threads like this tend to reek of immaturity.

Basically 'How can anyone possibly hold a different opinion from mine??'

If you cant comprehend that, then politics is probably not your area.

Anyway:
'I voted X party because in the areas that closely effect my life they come out on top'

put in a party, and choose the issues, and you can find the reason why people vote for them. There is a good reason why the poorer parts of society vote labour more.. the younger vote labour, students/academics previously voted lib dem, the older/rich vote conservative.

There will be exceptions to this, but by and large, people vote out of self-interest first, before thinking of others. And well, for middle england, the class that aspires to be rich, the conservatives offered the best package at the last ellection. They appealed to an older population by pandering to their needs, and taking full advantage of low voting numbers amoungst the young.

To understand why anyone would vote for any party you just need to look at their lives and motivation in life, and you can make a pretty good guess.
Because they (generally) believe in Capitalism, are liberal and take a less nuanced view on things like defence and FP.

Whilst a lot of what labour was accused of was unfair, they certainly didn't help themselves.

I'm relatively certain David Miliband would have done far better, perhaps enough to have won even (although whether or not that's a good thing I will leave to you)
I voted Tory in 2010 because of a variety reasons listed in prior threads but i maintained that vote in 2015 because i was broadly pleased with the coalitions performance bar welfare, the environment and immigration rhetoric. The Tories were prepared to defend their actions in coalition (both taking credit and responsibility) while the Lib Dems decided that the Tories were nasty and the Libs had played no part in any of the hard decisions.

Essentially because the Tories pleased me and the Lib Dem strategists were probably interns with no actual experience of fighting a campaign and frankly, idiots.

Evidence?
Why would someone vote for tax, socialism and wasteful spending? That's Labour in a nutshell.
because economic policy

If they believe this BS propaganda from the likes of the Daily Mail that people on benefits are lazy scroungers, that certainly would explain voting for the Conservatives.

Most people on benefits are that way for reasons beyond their control, not because they want to be. And there are a lot of people on benefits who are actually in work.
