If I were you, if it's for a computer, then get a system from a range like this. I have an older Altec Lansing system, and it really can blow your nuts off at full volume, and it remains crisp - not distorted. The systems in the above link will plug into computer soundcards, as well as things like ipods. They have the amp built into the subwoofer, so no need to buy separate amp.

If you do buy a separate sytem (ie. buying amp and speakers separately), make sure the amp has a high enough rating, otherwise it may destroy the speakers themselves.
