Usually about £100.

I'm not aware of any law against carrying money around. I seriously doubt that any such law exists.
The police have to have reasonable suspicion to stop and search you. The original suspicion has to result from your behaviour; they can't randomly search you and then find later that you've money on you (with some area-wide exceptions where this has been authorised by a senior officer, e.g. near a football ground on match-day). If you get stopped and searched for another reason and there is money found on you that you can't explain, then you may get taken in for questioning on suspicion of drug-dealing or whatever. Nothing wrong with carrying money around though.

Assuming you mean the opposite; legally as much as you can carry. In practice though if you look suspicious enough (i.e. poor) they'll assume you're a drug dealer, thief etc and all sorts of trouble will ensue. If you look as if you earned it, you're ok. However 500k in a trunk is shady by anyone's reckoning and they might take you in for questioning. Moral is don't get stopped by the police.

The Christmas before last the Bar/Club my Dad owns took around 75k in the week up to Christmas. Securicor didn't show up and Dad didn't want that amount of cash left in the safe (don't think the insurance would cover that high an amount) so on the Monday he phoned up a couple of the doorstaff and they escorted me and him about 80ft down the high street to the bank. Even then I was ******** myself all the way.

In practical terms, you do. The sort of people who are stopped by police - white people at least (because, let's face it, racial profiling does go on and is entirely justifiable) - dress like thugs and hang around the street looking like their up to no good. The chance of someone like me getting searched by a policeman in the course of my life are near enough zero.

Where I live there are two things you are by law required to have on you at all times, ID and 5 swiss francs. Not entirely sure why the 5 francs though, especially as it won't get you very far. :s-smilie:

You do to an extent. They don't do random checks unless it's late at night and you're in a dodgy area. If you dress smartly and give them no reason to stop you then they probably won't. And at the very least you get to choose between wearing your hood up or down, and that can make all the difference. I've never been stopped by the police and I probably never will be simply because I look law-abiding and never do anything to merit the attention of the police. It's actually a little bit sad...

The only reason I asked is, I heard your not allowed to keep more then £2000 in your home, unaccounted for, which will mean you will need to put it into the bank.

Just wondering if there was such a law of carrying around money on you.

I carry between £10-50

The most I have carried was £4k for my boss, It was only from his store to the bank, but I was ******** my pants all the way to the bank while I had it!

i carry hundreds of pounds or more late night in London, i always get the bus back form work between 12-5am and iv never been mugged or attacked.

nearly two years now of lovley safe bus rides :smile:

if im going shopping maybe £200-600, usally il have around £50-100 in my purse as standard

Contrary to myth there is no legal limit to how much cash you can carry. The banks would love to force the issue to eventually do away with all cash for their own financial benefit. Banks are not safe to keep large amounts of cash in anymore they are financially unstable as proven in the last financial debacle with the banks. Due to Nat west banks negligence in handling my accounts some years ago and costing me several millions I no longer use any bank accounts, and contrary to modern thinking you can get by without using banks and cards, although the government and the police are doing their utmost to assist the banks to force everyone to use cards. The banks are not an official government agent they are only corporate businesses who you pay to handle your money and are now getting above themselves in acting as unofficial government agents in asking where your money comes from and what your going to do with it when you withdraw substantial sums , it is in fact none of their business, once they accept you as a client then any suspicion they have of illegal money movement they should report to the necessary authorities they have no right to question you about your money, if their not happy then they can ask you to leave the bank as a client. I now look after my own substantial sum of cash using other methods than banking, I pay everything in cash which is my utmost legal right, although once paying my lawyers a huge sum in cash which they at first refused to accept I contacted the Law Society and asked them to quote me the actual law that prevents me from handling all my monetary affairs with payments of cash only and they could not do so, after much ado and argument the Law Society and the Lawyers agreed to accepting my cash. It is outrageous that the government and the law enforcement of this country are trying to force people to use banks who we are all aware are at the top of the list in illegal activity with several getting fined, but not jailed like normal people, but as usual throughout the world we find banks and other large institutions continue with illegal activity with the full cooperation and encouragement from governments who are themselves totally corrupt. I will go on until my dying day using only cash and any official involvement in trying to stop me will be met with a stern test of the Law in court. The excuse that terrorism is the main cause of the need to control the public from dealing with their own hard earnt money is poppycock the terrorists use the diplomatic pouch to move vast sums of money all around the world and cannot be questioned or arrested for any breach of law. The governments have used terrorism as an excuse to bring in laws to control the public

In the UK there's no legal limit, but in my eyes you should only carry as much as you'll need - I don't trust myself with lots of cash
