Scottish Results Thread 2005

Compatriots!

The big day draws ever closer! (Cue fingernail biting, etc, etc). Some of you may be getting your results by text message, and so will know tomorrow. Also, I am bored just now, and thought I'd set this up now.

This is a direct lift from Acaila's thread from last year, but, adhering to the old maxim 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it', we'll just stick to the same old rundown.

Very best of luck, everyone!

What grades did you get?

Advanced Higher Geography: A
Higher Philosophy: A
Higher Chemistry: B
Higher History: B

Did you meet your predictions?

Yep, and surpassed them for Philosophy!

If you applied to uni, have you met the offer?

Yeah, I had a conditional offer of BB at Higher to read MA Geography at Edinburgh which I now have in the bag.

What made you pleased/disappointed by your results?

1. Getting two A's. 2. Getting into Edinburgh Uni.

Anything you would have done differently in the past year if you could have done them again?

Nothing major.

Could you look at the results first or did you get a parent to?

I looked at them first of course! My parents were in bed!

What time did you find out your results?

6:55 AM - early!

Did you feel nervous?

Yes, opening the envelope seemed to take forever!

How do you feel now after knowing?

I'm very content and quite relaxed. It's good to know that my work has paid off!

I hope everyone else can feel the same way about their results as I did mine.

What grades did you get?

Advanced Higher Geography - B
Advanced Higher Maths - D
Higher Modern Studies - A
Higher Music - A
Higher Drama - A

Did you meet your predictions?
Honestly not sure what my prediction were in anything cept drama really. Didn't really meet my own predictions

If not, are you going to appeal?
My mum is encouraging me to appeal in geography, but I don't know if I can (got an A in the prelim, but that's only worth 30% of the grade)

If you applied to uni, have you met the offer?
Nope, missed it by three grades.

What decisions have you made about any further study?
Awaiting probable rejection on track, but don't know what time it updates. Not really sure if it's worth phoning up and begging.

What made you pleased/disappointed by your results?
Pleased - got my A in music which I was unsure about considering the exam
Relieved - got my A in drama, which I was getting mildly concerned about as I became convinced I'd taken the totally wrong tack on an essay
Disappointed - I was hoping for AC in the Advanced Highers. Worked really hard to improve in maths, and got the prize in geography so :frown:

Anything you would have done differently in the past year if you could have done them again?
Studied more! I went through a flat period between my Cambridge rejection and getting my Durham offer changed where I didn't think I was going to go anywhere good and kinda nosedived. I wish I'd tried harder to at least get a C in my maths prelim so I could appeal.

Could you look at the results first or did you get a parent to?
My mum brought them in and pretended not to look over my shoulder, sating her curiosity by making comments about my envelope opening skills.

What time did you find out your results?
Err...forgotten now. Before 8, maybe 7:55, 7:50?

Did you feel nervous?
Oh yes. But wanted to get it over with.

How do you feel now after knowing?
Flat. Rather dejected. A bit pissed off my perfect exam record is down the toilet . I guess I should start looking forward to life at Abertay...

I havn't got into my firm choice. Needed B in Eng and A in bus man. Ucas track hasn't been updated yet. i phoned ucas and they said they havnt heard from stratchclyde, my firm choice yet. Don't really know what to do now.

Am absoloutely gutted about english. Got an A in the prelim and was predicted at least a B. Didnt think the exam went that well but i thought my dissertation and creative writing folio would bring up my grade - apparently not. I don't understand why my teachers would let me send something away that was guff. Dunno if it's worth appealing.

Pleased about history and physics but can't really think about them at the moment for worrying about where im going to spending the next 5 years of my life.

My insurance is dundee and i wouldnt mind going there but havn't even heard from them.

Got my results about an hour ago.

What grades did you get?
ABB: French, German, English

Did you meet your predictions?
No, I was predicted AAA

If not, are you going to appeal?
Yeah, I'll appeal German def. and probably French

If you applied to uni, have you met the offer?
I haven't met my firm, Oxford, but I have met my Insurance, Bristol, which was BBC. I phoned/emailed Oxford and they said they can't tell me anything before English results, but I'm not holding out hope given I got a B in a subject I want to study.

What decisions have you made about any further study?
French & German at Bristol, October 2005!

What made you pleased/disappointed by your results?
I'm disappointed because I think I should and could have done much better. I'm not that pissed off I can't go to Oxford. If anything, I'm relieved, because I don't have to do the reading list etc and I'd spend my whole time there struggling to keep my head above water. I can relax abit about uni now!

Anything you would have done differently in the past year if you could have done them again?
I would have worked a bit harder, obviously. I had a great year, socially and academically, though, so I don't think I would change very much. Be more organised and focused, perhaps, but who wouldn't say that?!

Could you look at the results first or did you get a parent to?
No, I just ripped it open, I'm not very histrionic about these things.

What time did you find out your results?
About 9.30ish. I had gotten home at 2.30, inebriated shall we say, and woken up at 7.30 after a dream about UCAStrack!

Did you feel nervous?
A bit. I was more nervous when I phoned Ox though.

How do you feel now after knowing?
More relaxed, more relieved, less stressed. I'm gonna go out tonight and get blootered, then I'll start worrying about the move etc!!

Applying it this year.

What decisions have you made about any further study?
Aiming to get into Medicine, any uni will do. :P

What made you pleased/disappointed by your results?
Getting the grades I wanted.

Anything you would have done differently in the past year if you could have done them again?
If I have to think of one, maybe to do better in prelims.

Could you look at the results first or did you get a parent to?
I did, parents were dying to though - but they knew it wasn't right. :P

What time did you find out your results?
Midday.

Did you feel nervous?
Wasn't nervous at all this time, though last year I was as I came back from Alton Towers whilst receiving floods of text messages of good news. :P

H Mathematics: A
H Geography: A
H Physics: A
H Chemistry: A

Did you meet your predictions?
Yes, in fact I exceeded them!
I was expecting a B in Geography and to fail english, I was so relieved!

If not, are you going to appeal?
I can't appeal because I failed the English prelim.

If you applied to uni, have you met the offer?
I haven't applied yet.

What decisions have you made about any further study?
I am going to do AH Maths, Physics and Chemistry next year, and either AH English or H Business Managemant next year (it depends whether my school will allow me to do English, seeing as how that would be 4 AHs)
The year after that, I am doing a Year In Industry while also studying (distance learning) A2 level Further Maths.
In 2007 I hope to get into the University of Cambridge to study Engineering.

What made you pleased/disappointed by your results?
The 4 As made me pleased; The C I was indifferent about, but concerned that it could be a 'black mark' on my record and could mar my chances of being accepted at Cambridge.

Anything you would have done differently in the past year if you could have done them again?
I would have worked three times as hard at English than I did, and kept up in Geography so I wouldn't have had to cram before the exam.

Could you look at the results first or did you get a parent to?
I looked at them first, but my parents were dieing to find out what I got.

What time did you find out your results?
Probably around noon. I was in bed when my parents brought up the envelope, but I was too lazy to get up and opened it later on

Did you feel nervous?
Oh hell yes.
I got about two hours of sleep the night before.

How do you feel now after knowing?
I feel very relieved and more certain about my future.
I've got it all planned out, you see.
