Cinematics at London Metropolitan.

Probably my own fault for choosing such a ridiculous university (from what I've gathered on the forums anyway).

I imagine clearing will offer quite a few similar opportunities (perhaps not in London though).
I will show remarkable self-restraint and not say anything about course/uni choice :yep:
Good luck!

OP, as other posters have suggested, look at your options through clearing (or your insurance choice if you have one). If theres nothing that appeals then take a year out, get some relevent experience and reapply. That way it's not a wasted year and you get to do a course you want to do. Don't settle for a clearing course you aren't sure about for the sake of a year.
You could try applying for specific courses directly to universities of your choice explaining your situation and theres always UCAS Extra.
Good luck.

In a way, it is lucky that this has happened now - before you have started the course. At my university, courses were being cancelled this year and those that had already completed 1/2/3 years, were all worried that they were going be graduating for a school that was no longer there - making their degree, in effect, worthless. Learn from this and choose a degree that has perhaps a little more sustainability.

Take the year to really think what your career prospects will be like taking that or a similar course.

Nonsense. Go to uni and do whatever it is you want to do. Trust me, the job prospects will come later. I'm speaking from sheer experience, working at a very big corporate firm. I'm still shocked at how much faith we put into our degrees when at the of the day, unless you'd like to be a brain surgeon, it doesn't particularly matter what degree you do. Seriously, there are people here in finance who did biology at uni.

Over specialising can also lead to very little job prospects in the current job market and people spending so much on a degree should consider it. One of my friends has a good specialised degree and has been unemployed in the sector for a year.

I'm not saying not do the degree, I'm saying take the time to make sure it's right and find the best course instead of compromising and rushing into something through clearing which you may regret.

Sorry to hear about that, I would have went absolutely berserk. Hope that you're able to find a similar course.
You should do economics.

Whilst there is some lucrative debate here in degrees and such, it's really not relevant or helpful to a poster who is in quite a desperate situation and panicking a lot.

My advice follows as others have done. Call UCAS as soon as is possible and get there advice. I would suggest to try Clearing, it's worth a shot - it will cost you a small fee to enter clearing, and you can see if there's anything that you like. If not, then don't do it for the sake of it. But don't be put off by clearing - you can get great courses at great unis through it. In fact something they introduced last year was for people to 'upgrade' their choices through the clearing system i.e. did better in their A-Levels then they thought they would and upgraded to a university with a higher offer.

As awful as this situation is, at least you can get a head start on searching for clearing courses now. There will be those that will find out on results day that they've missed there offer and will then frantically have to search for courses. Look up the courses and unis that were listed in last years clearing (I can't provide a resource to that myself but I imagine some other helper TSR'r will be able to) and do some research into the universities and courses. Then when clearing opens next Thursday, if you've made an informed decision and are happy with it - you can go straight for that choice and hopefully get on to it.

I hope this has been somewhat helpful. I feel for you. You should also be taking major action with London Metropolitan for royally screwing you over so much.

May I also suggest that you make NUS (National Union of Students) aware about this - they're very good at taking action on this kind of thing and standing up for students rights. You could email the President or VP Higher Education and tell them about what's happened to you - they will also be able to offer valuable advice. President - Aaron Porter ([email protected]) VP Higher Education - Usman Ali ([email protected])

Best of luck!

Same thing happened to me. I was going to do Linguistics at Sussex and then they got rid of the Linguistics department. They basically said I could do any course I liked if I wrote a new personal statement and was approved by the course tutor...

But seiing as you don't like the courses they offered you, UCAS all the way. They must have dealt with this sort of thing loads.

It's such a shame it closed; the course was one of the university's strong areas. I'm reading a book recommended to me by King's that was written by one of the old professors at Sussex. I think they closed the department to save money.

How come you didn't apply for English language at Sussex? I know linguistics is quite different when you get into the specifics, but there's still a lot of crossover.

Would suggest you contact UCAS on Monday and see what the position is about retrieving any of the other offers you had, as this situation is hardly of your making!
