Life after 6th Form...

Hi everyone,

As you might of guessed, I've got a bit of a problem...

What to I do after 6th form, I'm now in year 12 and pressure is growinf for me, bassicaly, to choose what I want to do with my life. I have always loved writing and English so I quite sure I want to do Journalism or something similar (if you have any suggestion?) or maybe become an English teacher?

It would realy help if you could come up with some suggestions on how to do this i.e. Uni, Apprenticeships, internship, job etc

I am open to all suggestions!!

Thank you xx

Ever considered TESOL? Teaching English in overseas could be an interesting job to have whilst you can travel and learn other languages?

Thanks, thats a good idea, but I would rather stay in the UK
If you've got your heart set on English and nothing else at all, you should consider doing an English degree, from then you can decide what you want to do.
I personally love English but I've always wanted to be a primary school teacher. I'm applying to do a Primary School Degree where I can specialise in English as a subject. I'm also going to keep English as a major hobby too, I love writing

Wow, that degree sounds good! Where is it?
This time last year I was clueless as to what I wanted to do but I have found that gradually over the year I have realised what it is that I want to do. If you have a passion for english then do that and go from there, you'll find what it is you want to do :h:

If your interested in doing journalism as a career, your best option is getting some work experience at your local newspaper- maybe in the summer when exams are over, but write to them sometime early on in the new year.

For uni- whatever you do don't apply to do a journalism degree. Its much better if you do English as your BA, and then do a journalism degree. (Keeps your options option & ive heard top employers prefer this.)

With any primary school degree (i think any) you can specialise in a subject, this is usually in the second year.
Whenever/if you start searching for these degrees some of them are actually titled "Primary Education with English specialism" some just say "Primary Education" and in the description of the course mention how you can specialise in either year 1 or 2.

I'm applying to Brighton, Nottingham Trent, Roehampton, Manchester Metropolitan, and Oxford Brookes.
