I generally find it's always worth yelling 'Titian' at the screen to any UC painting question, at least a quarter of all paintings ever shown on the programme are Titians. :teehee:

Similarly, you cannot go wrong with Bach, Beethoven or Brahms.

The answer to all geology questions is "the Cretaceous".

:five:

maths questions usually the answer is 1

I thought the correct maths answer was always "minus 1".

It was last night.

Someone should keep a running log and produce a website with a big table showing the percentage occurrence for each answer in every subject.

Perhaps they do exactly that on the show. :yep:

We await the Bear (TM) Enterprises release with eager anticipation.
University Challenge is alright, but I find Jeremy Paxman really irritating, so would rather watch Only Connect or Pointless. The questions can be interesting on Univ.Chall, but I just can't get over how annoying Jeremy Paxman is.

It was really good tonight. :five:

One thing it reminded us of was that you can never know too much about Heraldic Ordinaries. :teehee:

It was funny that Paxman asked York if they have their own coat of arms - Smith answered that he does! Not the guy on the team called "Joly de Lotbiniere". It was Smith. :giggle:

Joly de Lotbiniere also wins the title of Most Unusual Surname this year.

I can't believe he knew those ordinaries so well, I could answer half of the names which would be worth no points.

The question where they were asked to list those 7 capitals was new.

I think they've had those kind of multipart 'sliding scale' questions before, but maybe not quite like that - it was kind of different.

Lol, yes, it covered all the bases. It was almost as if the question setters read this thread.
it was sad to see Katz being vanquished... they are a good-humored and knowledgeable crew.

The Heraldry question was fascinating... Mr Cole showed a lot of bezants

bear™ managed to beat the brains on just four questions:

Maple

Klimt

Milton

1820 ( guess :ahee: )

bear™ scored nul points on the music round

he was especially pleased about the Klimt painting as he had never seen it before, despite owning several books about GK.

I beat Bear in the music. I knew the Philadelphia one. :smug:

That was funny, because I immediately thought "Klimt" on seeing all those starry sequined flowers, then I thought, gaah, I've never seen that one before, can it be Klimt? So I went into a sort of fugue state of puzzlement. :teehee:
