That really sucks... I really wanted a self-catered hall =/

If you wanted self-catered you will probably get it, catered is super over subscribed so tons of us have ended up in self-catered accommodation.

Oh okay, cool heh:smile:
I got my second choice...

But I have got a question:
Does anybody know the deadline for paying the accomodation fees?
I can't find anything on the website.

Thank you!

It depends how you want to pay (in full or in instalments). Information can be found here http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/students/money/tuitionfees/howareyoupaying/payingtheuniversity/payingaccommodationfees/

None of the UK candidates with conditional offers will have heard yet as their results only come out on the 15 th Aug.they will only receive their accommodation once their places become unconditional.

I have the unconditional offer for foundation program at St.Andrews, but the accommodation really puzzles me.

On the fee package It says,
http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/elt/foundation/feepackage - Undergraduate students have a meal plan which provides 14 meals per week during semester (i.e. not during University vacations).

http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/media/elt/documents/CIFP%20St%20Andrews%202013.pdf- In this link It says the meal plan and an ensuite room is covered (page 11 and 38) Also It is clearly stated that the room will be ensuite.

http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/elt/foundation/programmes/socialsciencesandhumanities/#d.en.216771
-Here It says the accomodation is self catered,If my accomodation is self catered why do they provide meals ?

http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/elt/foundation/feepackage/ - Again there is a problem, here it says " Bedding can be purchased for a modest fee on arrival. "

But while on the 2013 pdf document for foundation students (http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/media/elt/documents/CIFP%20St%20Andrews%202013.pdf,page 11) It says that the bedding price is included :confused:

And also since I'll be staying in an ensuite room,I just wonder how It is,I mean a bathroom is the only difference in an ensuite room or there are other things that are not so big like bed and room to be larger ? I just want to know what type of room I'll spend my year  Thanks

What hall are you in? Because some halls are catered whereas some are sf-catered (no meals are provided). If you are staying in DRA or ABH you will have a double bed and the room will be slightly larger than some of the other halls and have a bathroom

I'm struggling to understand how housing assignments are rolled out.

I requested standard catered, Andrew Melville, catered en suite, and self-catered en suite in descending order, but I have not yet received my housing assignment even though I have an unconditional offer and submitted my housing application in early April.

So far, people with unconditional offers seem to have received housing assignments for standard catered, Andrew Melville, catered en suite, and self-catered en suite. Is it just the luck of the draw that some received these offers but others have not? Or is there a rhyme and reason for how all this works?

I understand that standard catered may be oversubscribed this year. But what does this mean for unconditional offer holders who have not yet received their housing assignment? Are standard catered rooms (both single and shared) no longer available to them?

How about rooms in Andrew Melville and en suite catered singles? Are they no longer available to unconditional offer holders still waiting to receive their housing assignments?

Or is there still a fighting chance that unassigned unconditional offer holders may yet receive a single or double in a standard catered room, a single in Andrew Melville, or a catered en suite room?

Thanks!

Accommodation has said that all rooms have been assigned. From the looks of it, much of what has not yet been received will be standard catered, likely being held for A-Level results. You will hear soon, and there is still a chance you will get one of your top three choices (although you should be prepared to receive your fourth choice as well, especially if you are international).

DRA is a mix of both self-catered and catered. The flats are all set up so they'd be suitable for self-catered (with a proper kitchen), so they tend to be called self catered apartments, but there is also the option to be catered for 14 meals of the week (which you are). As for the bedding issue, probably best to contact the university and ask them that one. Not many people here will have experience of the foundation course and it's specifics.

ElizabethRG,

Thanks for your response!

It makes sense that all rooms have already been assigned. But if that’s the case, why has there been a delay in announcing those assignments to some unconditional offer holders?

Does that delay suggest that the final room assignments for these unconditional offer holders are subject to further variables such as A-level exam results for conditional offer holders? Or am I missing something?

Also, if I understood you correctly, international students are more prone to receive their fourth choice room? Just curious: why would this be the case?

Thanks again -- I appreciate the help!

Rubbish. The only reason it would appear so is because internationals are the ones with the most unconditional offers. I know of a few Home students who hold unconditionals who got their last choice and equally I know many internationals who got their 1st choice.

It's definitely not international students getting their third or fourth choices! I'm a Scottish student and I got my third choice (ABH) and my friend also got ABH which was her 4th choice. There are a number of other student also currently in ABH who didn't want to be there. There are still lots of unconditional offer holders yet to hear. Offers will be released weekly, just keep checking your saintmail. Maybe they send them out in batches because the system can't handle them going out at the same time, I don't know.
