How to succeed in writing a Politics essay

Hi everyone,

I am a Politics student soon heading into my final year at university and wanted to ask you for help in my essay technique. I still feel I am using the wrong technique by not addressing the question enough, not being analytical enough, not using a good structure, not criticizing authors etc.
But is it really that easy to go out there and write an essay trying to criticize someone that graduated from Harvard? I think it's not-or maybe I just don't know how to do it.

I appreciate any constructive tips/examples on how to improve.
