Does anyone actuallly live in Lea Halls. would love to have an unbiased view before i accept anything

If a person were to have an an offer for a particular place and they rejected it, can you still apply for different accommodation or would they just reject you?

I'm only asking this because everyone seems to have negative thoughts about lea halls and I need to make my mind up by Wednesday because that's when the deposit is due

You'll have all of your bills included though. Water, gas, electricity and internet can add up to quite a bit of money. Getting your own flat with bills included for £500 a month is extremely ambitious in the South East. In certain areas up north it probably wouldn't be a problem at all but it's pretty unrealistic for the South East, particularly when considering the proximity to London. It's all about the location. I know people spending over £200 a week for tiny rooms without en suites in London and in certain parts of London you'd probably be paying even more.

This is exactly right. To rent you are told to expect your costs to be the half the same as your rent, so that's gas and electric (about 120 a month) water (depending on a meter, but flat rate that's £50 a month) decent Internet (£20 a month), TV license (£25 a month) for which you need a landline (£11 rental a month). You miss of the biggest which is council tax (enjoy that while it lasts!) then you have to get insurance as part of your rental agreement (£25 a month) and then on top of all that, unless you go furnished (which is much more expensive) you have to buy washing machines, cookers, fridges, plates, bed sets, kitchen equipment (you will be suprised how much you need) all the stuff for the bathroom, tv, sofas the list goes on and on, trust me I own houses, it's just never ending. So I would say, yes the rent on paper looks high, but add up all the other costs and trust me, for that price, it's a good deal, ESP compaired to my £1700 a month mortgage.

Yeah it's SO expensive! I get the maximum maintenance money (£7,125) for this year and I wouldn't be able to live on what I'd have left after rent lol luckily my dad will be giving me £200 a month though and I think I might get the centenary scholarship which would be AMAZING.

I think fitzroy court is worth the money though because it's better than paying £100 a week to live somewhere you hate. I'd rather live somewhere nice and it's not anywhere near as much as what people pay for accommodation in London. Plus we get 24/7 security, a reception desk and a gym.

You're getting a double bed? I'm only in a standard £126pw fitzroy room

How do you work it out to be £140 more?
Lol, my mother is looking to rent my room when I leave for uni. Its a 10 minute walk from the bedford campus.
Although I really hope she doesn't:frown:

Oh I see.. Fair enough. I guess the difference between the standard and deluxe isn't really that much in terms of cost. I'd quite like a double bed but it'll have to wait until I'm in a house next year.

I'm moving the 21st to Bedford and studying English and Education Studies. I'm verrrryyy nervous. I'm coming all the way from Newcastle aaah!

I'm staying in the Liberty Park Halls, does anyone know what they're like?

I've just graduated from UoB where I studied Sport and Exercise Science and stayed in liberty in my first year of uni. It was a really good experience and I loved liberty. Everyone other students were friendly and so are staff. Their the best halls on the bedford campus, well there is only the university halls on the other side of campus and the dreaded tower! lol (be thankful your not staying there and didn't go for cheap option). How much are you paying for your room out of curiosity and what room? I paid £88 a week for a single bed and thought that was expensive, then heard singles jumped up to £94/96 a week the next year, but not sure about them last year 2011/12.

Liberty was recently newly built: you'll have an on suite bathroom with shower pod, nice kitchen with living room. Then you have a common room with sky tv, pool table and 24 hour reception with security (Mr G. is a ledge!) and a gym. Make sure you socialise and don't be hermit and you'll enjoy liberty and uni! Any more questions I'll be glad to help
