How difficult is the GDL?

Im on track for a 2:1 in history from quite a reputable uni, in the top 30 let's say. I'm now seriously thinking of taking the GDL but am just worried that'll it be too difficult. Does anyone know how hard it really is? I'm going to go for the part-time hours so I won't be cramming all the content in the space of 8-9 months.

And another thing, is the NCLT (National College of Legal Training) any good?
My A-level Law tutor did the GDL a few years after he qualified as an Economics teacher and he said it's an intensive year (he did evening classes while teaching full time) but it pays off. It can be done if you have the time to spare and people with full time jobs can get it done with good organisation and commitment.
