University of London degree

I know many people who are interested in taking the subjects you offer, but are hesitant about applying for the NCH because your website states that they will get a University of London degree.

UCL et al. are part of the University of London, and they seem to get the impression that they "might as well apply for UCL"; especially considering the fact it already has developed a good reputation for the subjects, and it is virtually in the same place.

Why should a student choose to go to the NCH as opposed to the other UoL colleges?
Hello,

Great question!

Choosing the right university is an incredibly important decision and there are no hard and fast rules to deciding which university is best for you. It is vital to be able to make a factually informed choice.

There has been a marked decline in one to one tutorials and weekly contact hours combined with a lack of innovation across almost all UK universities with regards to the Humanities. The NCH student academic experience is premised upon providing one to one tutorials and, typically, 12-13 contact hours per week. The general ethos of NCH is one of personal attention; no student will be just a face in the crowd and we believe that the close working relationships developed with your tutors will be highly conducive to achieving broad academic excellence.

In addition to studying for a prestigious UoL degree, all students will study for the unique award of the Diploma of New College of the Humanities. The Diploma is designed to provide our students with increased breadth of study and an unrivalled edge in today’s dynamic job market. Not only will the subjects studied complement your main degree subject and enhance future employability, they will also have a positive impact on your personal development, providing a set of skills that will allow you to engage positively with the world around you.

During their three years at NCH, students of the Diploma will study an extra four contextual modules from another degree subject alongside core modules in Logic and Critical Thinking; Science Literacy; Applied Ethics and then finally a Professional Skills course.

It goes without saying that NCH is not suited to everyone; the academic study will be rigorous and challenging we are looking for truly fervent students of the humanities.

The inspiration derived from being taught by our preeminent professoriate who will typically deliver four lectures in each week of the longer autumn and spring terms is something unique to our institution. This will be complemented by our carefully appointed teaching staff, selected for their exceptional academic and teaching credentials. Their skill, reputation and passion for teaching undergraduate students underpin the College’s academic excellence.

Outside of academic life at NCH, our students will have the unique opportunity to create the first NCH Student Union. They will have a pioneering spirit and have the chance to make a small of piece of NCH history that will be in place for years to come! An exciting prospect, I’m sure you’ll agree.

I hope this answers your question,

Very best regards,

Jane
