I am stuck on what is meant by sensory modality

I have come across this in a book

'Sensory stores = each holding information very breifly and being modality specific'

Can someone please explain what this means?

I do A-level Psychology but sensory stores are information which is immediate into your memory, from any of your senses, e.g. sound, touch, smell, etc. Modality specific refers to the type of coding the information is held, I think! Can't be completely sure I did this a year ago now.
