Well it's a communal lounge in each block, which could just be a fancy name for a common room lol. Yeah I'm not away for too long but I worry I wont get my first choice if I don't apply straight away! Although I think I have a bit of an advantage as I get assigned a room on the 2nd of August instead of the 20th. Yeah my nan has been pretty good with that, I even have things that I cant use this year but can bring for the 2nd one such as a kettle. See I think that will be okay, I hate the feeling of knowing that when I leave my house then my brother is being moved into my room straight away so I'm going to feel quite pushed out of my family lol. If you do forget something then you can probably live without until you next go back home, whereabouts do you live now? The en suite rooms have more storage for such problems too :P

Yeah I guess that's a benefit for the ensuite but can't imagine you'd spend much time in your room for it to be worthwhile. Yeah I see your point. Is there not a way for you to get an internet ? Maybe a dongle or something if your that worried. I dont really use a kettle that much now although I think you'd be able to use it in halls but you'd have to check that one. Aww, my sister tried that one- wanting my room as an extra wardrobe! Not a chance! I live about an hour and a half away so its far enough but not too far if u know what I mean. On move in day it's probably going to feel like days.

Haha, good one! You'll really enjoy Keele! Make sure you check out the SU and KUBE websites as well  But yeah, don't be worried, you'll love it here

Thats good and yeah I will do. What sort of things go on during freshers btw? and what would you advise is a must to do? lol (if that makes any sense)

There's a list here: http://www.keelesu.com/a-z-of-societies - it's slightly incomplete but should be updated over the summer. Sports clubs are here: http://www.keelesu.com/au-clubs

And I haven't actually been in any On-Campus accommodation as Keele was my insurance choice. However I will be in Barnes Hall next year which is primarily for 3rd years. But my friends that have been in Halls have really enjoyed it! Horwood is the closest to the SU with Barnes, Lindsay, Holly Cross fairy close. Hawthorns is in Keele village and is about 10 minutes walk onto Campus. The majority of the information is on the Keele Accommodation website: http://www.keele.ac.uk/studyatkeele/accommodation/

Sorry I can't be more help with that but anything else feel free to ask

I had a really big question I wanted to ask but can't remember it now so I'll get back to you on that one but how are the lectures? Are they like big groups or just like a class size. I mean i saw some of the lecture theatres so are they usually full? I firmed to do law with criminology if you have any information that? And how true is the laser party in the woods thing?

I'm hoping that if I have a nice room then it will make me want to stay in there more and actually do some work lol-well heres hoping anyway! I should be able to get it so it should be fine  I'll probably end up checking at every possible moment :P. Na I've already checked, they already have one in the kitchen and you cant have anything like that in your room as it is a fire hazard. Haha at least you won on the argument, my parents dont seem to get that I will probably be spending half my time back at home. Ahhh yeah thats not too bad, I'm about 2 and a half so it's going to be a bit of a team effort from the family to get everything up in 1 go otherwise it will be a nightmare! Heres hoping that we get halls with a lift! lol

Ah good point. I feel about ready to move out now so hopefully I won't go home that much. And you just reminded me what my other question was! How often do students go home? I dont think I'm going to go home that much :/ oh right, another thing I'm dreading... fire drills. Soon as she mentioned it mum was like no. Theres no way I'll be able to take everything although when u do go home they'll have missed you so may make him sleep somewhere else? And im sure ive read its lindsay that has a lift

Do a lot of students go home like at the weekends? I visited early on a Sunday on an independent visit and there was hardly anyone around. Although someone did say everyone was probably still in bed. Oh and if you share a bathroom its girls on one floor and boys in another isn't it? So does it mean that only ensuite is mixed??

I won't go home many weekends but I can only afford a 33 week en suite one so I will have to go home during easter and theres obviously christmas too but I dont think anyone really realises how long that is until they properly look at it lol. My friends all vary in the amounts they go home, theres some that never go home unless they really have to and even then my friend who goes to uni where she pretty much lives will spend most of her time in sheffield or something with her boyfriend or doing work experience, on the other hand I have one friend who only spends monday and tuesday at uni and the rest of the time at home (which I don't class as living away!) haha no they won't do that, they will probably make his room into my storage room for left over stuff and then have me sleep in there when I get back. I'm still hoping thats where I get put :P never hurts to be wishful

From memory, Freshers goes:
-Saturday - move in and Icebreaker Disco at night,
- Sunday - Comedy Night
- Monday - Massive Monday (the one in Sept 2012 featured Zane Lowe)
- Tuesday - Quiz
- Wednesday - Flirt! (Fancy dress night)
- Thursday - Live music (smaller night)
- Friday - Freshers Ball (Example for Sept 2012)

There just the SU events at night, various other things going on during the day both in the SU and from the Uni itself such as Societies sign up and AU sign up etc

Must does - go to all events during Freshers Week, join as many societies and clubs as possible, make as many new friends as you can, just have fun really!

Lecture sizes vary, for both History and IR, there's about 100-120 that do each subject so the compulsory lectures have about that many in (at the start anyway) and then each module goes from about 40 - 80 depending. Don't have any information on either Law or Criminology, sorry :frown: And yep, there are various parties in the woods, they're pretty infamous, don't think there's been one for a while but there definitely will be some next year!!

Erm, depends! Keele does get slightly dead and boring over weekends but hopefully that will change next year! (Can't say why atm) I would recommend not going home much at all! Socialise with flatmates etc and get to know the area! Not sure about that but I'm in a 4 person flat in Barnes next year and that isn't mixed, don't know about others!

Good! Can't wait! And whenever someone says that it makes me want to know even more, but I'll be patient and wait  thanks anyway

Same! I hate all this waiting around

Sorry to dive in to the conversation everyone, but I thought I'd drop by and say hello  I've firmed an unconditional for astrophysics with a science foundation year, and the accommodation is the last thing I need to sort out. I'm torn between trying to go for a flat, or just having a room with a washbasin so I could get into Lindsay which is really close to the science buildings. When I went to the open day in October I had a wander around one of the Lindsay blocks and they seemed pretty cool with the rooms being quite a good size. (I did notice there was a lot of room under the staircases which would be perfect for a blanket fort )

All this waiting is driving me mad though, at least we've only got a couple of days to wait.

I'm Ellie by the way

I think lindsey is the best way to go, let me know what you get as it will be nice to know someone that's also on a foundation course

Hurray! hehe. I'm a serial cake baker, I've always got something cooking  Where better to eat cake than in a blanket fort!

I love baking as well so that should be a laugh  what type of accommodation are you looking at and where?

Sounds brilliant! I'm thinking about a standard room with a washbasin, hopefully in Lindsay or maybe a standard flat hopefully in Barnes. I'm thinking Lindsay will be the best option  How about you?

Freshers Week is the week before lectures actually start. You will have 1 or 2 introduction lectures but nothing major! And yeah, there are activities during the day as mentioned and then all of the above events at night! Haha, it will fly past, trust me
