This is just going to end up as another Libya. Only this time, there will be even more weapons (including chemical weapons) flying around.
I hate to be so cynical and conspiratorial, but I can't help but feel the primary reason for helping the rebels is that they need to buy weapons, the Assad regime doesn't (as much). Essentially, they are just appealing to the larger market.
