Perhaps you could spend the next year doing a BTEC or an Access course through a college, and get into uni that way? What sort of course were you hoping to do?

It's unfair of people to judge, you're the only one who knows the full circumstances. Sorry your results didn't go better for you :console:

If he/she is intelligent enough to do A Levels and is willing to adapt their work ethic this year then they may be better off showing their full potential via A levels.

Haha, wow that was me all over. I just thought i'd do what i did at GCSE and revise a day before the exam and come out with A*. Obviously i new it was harder so i thought a month or two would be fine. But it was just too much and i found i wasn't capable of even reading everything i needed to know let alone learn it. I'm now going to continue at school doing just two alevels. Then sit a couple more at collage for a year, maybe just as levels. Then go off to uni a year late hopefully. Hopefully i will have fully decided about uni then at least.

Ah I just talked to the college I would go to and they said they were full.. Have you spoke to your school? (If so how did you convince them) Have they said that you can continue with the 2 D's and resist the other 2 as AS Levels? Because this also seems like my only other option but instead I would do A2 biology and psychology but do maths as and a2... I'm so scared my school might say no and I won't be doing anything for a year! Do you think I should email my tutor before my enrolment next week?

I would definitely contact them if i were you. My school has said it's perfectly fine for me to carry on with just the two subjects. I'm also going to resit my AS exams to bring me up to two decent grades hopefully. They also offered me the chance to take up general studies but as most uni's don't accept it i didn't see much point. I think there is a decent chance that they will let you carry on with the subjects you passed

So are you going to redo any of the ones you failed?.. Then continue then next year at a college? Thank you by the way. I will contact them tomorrow

I'm going to resit the AS exams for geography and Econ (the two i got a D in) I'm not going to redo the year eg. go to any lessons, just resit the exam. I will do this whilst doing my full a level for the subject as well. Then in one years time i will go to collage i guess to get some more UCAS points.

I'm not going to resit or try again with the two that i failed as there would be little point and it would be far too much for me.

Oh and good luck. I'd do it sooner, rather than later:smile:

Just one question.
During the entire school year, did you not have any end of unit tests or anything like that, where you would have noticed you were scoring lower than you say you can if you had put effort in? Did you not once during the year get lower scores in tests and think about what might happen in the real exams?

The advice people are giving on here is great though, hope you follow it and good luck!

Yeah, i won't be able to stay on at school and resit. My maths teacher said specifically if i fail there is no way on earth she would even consider letting me back on the course. I've had her for 4 years and saying we don't see eye to eye in an understatement. Even when i got an A* at GCSE her response was, 'i have no idea how he got that' 'there is no justice in this world'

Omg, I am genuinely crying at this! 'there is no justice in this world' omg this is just great!!!

Your teacher sounds like a right bitch!! That's my kind of woman!
Sometimes it takes some bad grades to make you realize how much you want to go to University and how much harder you need to work! I got DDUU at AS Level, then realized I really had to do better, so swapped onto a BTEC which I enjoyed SO much more, worked harder and now I'm off to Uni =D
You slept in every lesson? I doubt the teachers would have allowed that.

Her hatred for me slowly turned into a strong mutual hatred which resulted in me loathing going to her lessons and therefore doing even less work. Most teachers i see around school i acknowledge, but when i walk past her there is a very awkward glance from us both and she almost always has something to moan about.

I'd hate to have a teacher like that! In fact one of my Lit peers hated our teacher and she hated going to her lessons. She was predicted an A but she got a C. Which personally I think because she skipped going to the teacher's lessons and missed coursework deadlines just so she couldn't see her face!

And omg, your post about your teacher are too funny!
On a serious note - I think you need to give yourself some self-worth. If you slept in your lessons then no wonder you came out with bad grades. My friend (who sat next to me) in Lit slept when we were doing all the exam prep for Section B Poetry stuff and guess what? He managed to SCRAPE an E for his exam grade. By scrape, I mean one mark down it would have been a U... Which goes to show you have got to pay attention in class!

I know I sometimes didn't in my classes so I would use somebody's book to copy notes and go over them in my free period. I was watching Everybody Hates Chris and Chris got an F in his Math test and you know what his mum said (paraphrase): Chris, I know you're not stupid so don't act like it.' -lesson learned.

You claim to be 'naturally intelligent' but last year, you didn't use that intelligence to help you? So if you are not 'dumb' then don't act like it. It's honourable that you've owned up and took responsibility for your actions. Now you're facing the consequences, which is also good. Now you need to learn from your mistake. Motivation will not come looking for you. You have to find it yourself which I thought was a challenge. But you've got to find something to motivate you, something you want to aspire from! Also, as soon as possible find a revision technique that helps you!

I have a friend who failed his AS he got CDUU because he just couldn't bothered (like yourself) and this year he got DDU too (even though he claims he revised and etc, which I know he didn't because he decided to go football 20 times a week, play at the casino and work crazy-ass hours). You need to dedicate your academics with your pleasures and prioritize your time management. On the other hand, you might want to think about many A-levels aren't for you? If you literally said you found your A-levels boring then honestly, most likely you will find all of A-levels boring and God only knows what you are going to be like when you come to revision (if you get to that stage).

Bottom line is, if you claim to be intelligent then prove yourself right and get the grades you want to. No point sitting there saying "I'm so smart" then not having the evidence to back up that claim.
The fact you cannot spell college properly says a lot about your natural intelligence.
Good luck anyway mate
I was in your position last year I didn't get the grades I wanted but I knew I wouldn't have done well, I am intelligent and I have good GCSE results, but GCSE's really don't prepare you for Alevels I did almost no work for my GCSE's and still got pretty good grades.

Last year in AS levels I got:
History-c
Maths-D
Biology-D
Chemistry-U

I really wanted to continue chemistry and I knew I wouldn't be able to pull the grades up to what I wanted whilst also continuing with the A2 year so I decided to go to college to retake the year.
My AS levels are now

Psychology-B
Maths-A
Biology-A
Chemistry-A

Don't give up you can still do well next year if it's definitely what you want to do.

I would say though only continuing the two and picking up the AS's might not be the best idea, you will only be able to apply to Universities that ask for a points tariff rather than specific grades, but obviously that depends on what you want to study and if you are bothered about going to a top university.

If you want any more advice I would be happy to help

Also to all those people saying intelligent people wouldn't fail the exams believe me they do, exams no longer test your intelligence they test how well you can regurgitate specifications and mark schemes

Yes i failed a few end of units test. Although in a few towards the end of the year i was actually getting alight grades. In maths i was on c's, but i think my problem was i only knew half the course so it was just dependant on what came up.

But yes i was incredibly stupid and lazy
