law - statutory interpretaion

im confused.

what aids to judges have to interpret statutes and what are the rules of statutroy interpretaion.

arent they the same thing.

I got Law tomorrow aswell.............not nice.

I think its talkin bout extrinsic and intrinsic aids, e.g. stuff in the act and stuff outside it.

can't remember the rules tho soz = shows how bad im gonna do in my exam.

I also have all 3 modules 2morrow, WJEC, and in my fairly brief revision periods I "think" there are;

common law rules;
literal
golden
mischief
modern purposive approach

stat. rules;
interpretation act 1978
Stat. objective
and definition sections ie, the theft act 1968

And about the aids to stat. interp;
internal - the statute itself, Edjusdem Generis, etc
external - human rights act, law reports..

Hope thats some help, although this is off the top of my head..

use of hansard - *pepper v heart 1993* -

hats quite an important case and would be wise to use in the exam...
