Hypothetical 2013/04 - UN Bombing

BreakingUN Secretariat Building Attacked

At approximately 2pm today, the Turtle Bay area of Manhatten was rocked by an explosion, followed by plumes of smoke from the United Nations Complex. In scenes that brought back images of 2001, the entire city was shut down as the skyline was filled with clouds of smoke.

Details are currently sketchy, but it is thought that the explosion was centred on the car park near the building, leading to reports that there was a car bomb.

We are told that the General Assembly was in session at the time in the Hall, and, as such, all ambassadors are unharmed and have been evacuated.

Please remember all military movements must go through me, toronto353 or RoryS. Nuclear weapons can only be used under the rules set out in Resolution 2013/3.

The Netherlands condemns this in the strongest terms. However, it is far too early to start pointing the finger, so it would like to remind all nations that nothing has been confirmed.

Nice job on starting up a hype.

Could you correct the typo in your first post please? Toronto instead of Birchington

Luxembourg shall wait until the perpetrator is known before doing anything rash, but would not be overly against military action should a nation or large organisation be found as the malefactor.

Thanks!
France will wait until information is released from the United States before a further statement of our intents following this incident. We are, however, very troubled by these attacks and will do all we can to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Zimbabwe calls for an investigation into this attack. When we send our ambassadors to one of the most important buildings in the world, we expect our representatives to be safe. Thankfully, everyone was unharmed but this can not be allowed to happen, otherwise we may think twice about sending our representatives and I'm sure we're not the only ones who feel this way.
Syria observes these events with concerted interest.

I note you're all quick to condemn when it is not even yet clear this was an attack at all.

OOC: Not all of us, and do you represent a nation or are you just pointing out that representatives are jumping to conclusions?

OOC: Didn't know there was a hyp yet but good to see we have one on.

The US is angered and shocked at these attacks on our soil and we shall use all our power to find those in question responsible for such atrocities to not only the American people but of the people the UN represents: let it be known to the culprits that they stand to face the full wrath of the UN. Whilst we have no grounded evidence as of yet, we have some leads which have led us to suspect some unfriendly US nations. More news to follow.

Canada is shocked that such an attack has taken place in our neighboring country and offers logistical and intelligence support to the United States of America. Furthermore Canada hopes that an investigation into the attack can start as soon as possible.
Malta is shocked that this has happened and will support the US where it needs it to help bring the perpetrators to justice.

Kenya is disturbed by this event and awaits further information so that united action can be taken.
Fiji is shocked by the events and hopes the USA investigate the cause of the incident.
Indonesia offers condolences to any hurt in the explosions, we await further information on the nature of this concerning event.

The Republic of India is absolutely angered by this attack and we forever condemn those who perpetrate such attacks, As the previous representatives have echoed we echo the USA to immediately inform us of the results of the investigation.

The Swiss Confederation condemns these attacks as cowardly, we must make sure the perpetrators are brought to swift justice!
Greece is extremely concerned to hear of recent events, and we know that our Greek community in the US will do their best to help our friend and ally. Greece urges the US to control her anger. It's the only way she will get to the bottom of this. What the US needs to do is put a case together. Find clues. Those clues will form a path to those responsible, and may even along the way, provide the world with a reason. Greece knows the US has achieved things through diplomacy before, and even though it is more difficult, Greece has faith she will be able to again.
