When you say a "good" grade in maths does that mean A or A*?

Yes, preferably an A*. Computer Science is a mathematical subject, so we want mathematically strong students. Having said that, a lower grade wouldn't rule you out -- but we'd need very strong evidence that you had improved since GCSEs.

Gavin
If you don't get an A* in Maths and it's not because of poor teaching, then I wouldn't apply to Oxford for CompSci.

In my opinion, top 5 Computer Science Universities in the UK are:

1) Imperial
2) Cambridge
3) Oxford
4) University of Birmingham
5) Manchester/Glasgow

Definitely Imperial at the top for CS. Imperial Computer Science is amazing, from what I know, companies prefer Imperial>Oxbridge for CS applicants.

Interesting...I always thought Cam came out on top.
Why do you rank Birmingham so highly? I've never known them for their strengths in CS.
