The Student Room Group

TSR is a Far Right (bigoted) breeding ground. Discuss.

TSR seems be to full of far right loonies, as has happened with a lot of other social media recently. I suspect the UKIP brigade and co are seeking to whip up hysteria in the year prior to the elections, brainwashing the moronic masses into a fear of Islam and immigration.

Just take a look at the BBC comments section, a traditionally left wing paper. The Far Right conglomerate have arrived, and berate anyone who disagrees with their 'traditional', 'Christian' and 'Patriotic' values.

I would personally argue the opposite - TSR has a large population of the far left.

There's no such thing as the far left in this country...do you have any idea what you're talking about?

You're not a communist are you?

TSR is ridiculously far left.

you are correct
I agree with OP to be honest. I only joined a few weeks ago and I don't even know why I bother with this site. Some people are nice of course but there are some really arrogant, nasty people who should know better, with quite frankly some shocking views. I can list numerous other Forums that have much better communities.

Yes some people here are really horrible - but do you think that this is limited to the right alone?

Most of the time.

TSR is more left than right

Tbh, there are small but highly vocal communities on both ends of the political spectrum on this forum. If you look it is always the same people posting right wing or left wing threads and the same few people who argue with each other through the entire thread. The majority of users, such as myself, lurk on these threads without really commenting, giving a disproportionate representation of the size of both of these political factions.

I don't think there really is a far-left on TSR. There's people who are left-wing but there isn't really any radical 'lefties' on TSR. Otherwise you'd be seeing a lot of threads on why we should all adopt communism. There does seem to be a minority of far-right people on TSR though, I'm not sure if these are just trolls but you do get the odd number of people expressing views that line up with the BNP and EDL. I disagree that these people make TSR a far right breeding ground since they are part of the minority but I can see where you are coming from since they seem to be quite a loud minority.

It's people posturing as a lefties. You do realise that we don't really have a left wing in this country. It's become extremely centralised, and the traditional left wing voters have in fact headed to the far right, without even realising it.

I still think TSR has more left wingers, this was true in 2008 and is still applicable today.

I'd say most TSRians are left wing in theory and right wing in practice.

I think OP is confusedly equating right wing with social conservatism, which is probably more accurate of TSR.

Everyone on here is being so pleasant today!

Well would you not consider these parties far left?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialist_Party_%28England_and_Wales%29
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialist_Workers_Party_%28Britain%29

They are both listed as far left

So yes, I think I do. No, I am not a communist.
I disagree. There are some far right people. There are some far left people. Most are somewhere in the middle.

One thing I have noticed is the growth of intolerant "TSR is full of <insert group I don't like>" posts, seeking to marginalise whichever group the OP happens to think is bad, usually on the premise that said group fosters intolerance and marginalisation. Funny old world.
Agree.

They are basically non-entities, all of the far left parties combined have 3 council seats. Compare that to UKIP who have 200+ council seats and will likely come 2nd in the EU elections.

I would suggest very few people on TSR are far-right. I am very vocal in my criticism of Islam and mass immigration but would never describe myself as far-right.

I am not Christian or patriotic, either.
