can someone explain to me how they got 6cm for the similar shapes question?

I just got it some how I didn't know it would be right. Done no working out would I get full marks?

Yes

I do the foundation exam, was just wondering, what do you expect to be at the beginning of your paper? Because that is what will be at the back of mine:smile:

look at the position of the 'A' key in comparison to the 'S' key.

Okay here are the correct solutions, someone posted the answers and several questions had errors:

1) Using a calculator:
a) 1.240154521
b) 1.2

2) Ingredients:

200 g plain flour
150 g ground almonds
225 g soft brown sugar
150 g butter
10 ripe pears

3) Frequency polygon - points correctly plotted using the midpoint of each class width.
4) Ratios: Erica gets £48
5) Transformations: translation by the column vector 3,4

6a) Front Elevation: 3 boxes and a triangle which covers the space of 2 boxes to the left of the 3 boxes.
b) Plan Elevation: Top row has 5 boxes.
Bottom row has 3 boxes directly below the last three of the top row.

7) Jenny's party arrangements: £10.96 is the least amount of money she pays.
8a) Conversions: €280
b) £8.00

9a) Bearings: correct bearing of 320 degrees and straight line of 6cm drawn up to the point B, mark with a cross and label it B
b) Scale: 3km

10a) Area of top of the table: 7854 cm^2
b) Circumference of the base of the table: 125.7 cm

11) Expanding and simplifying: x^2 - 5x - 36
12a) Expression for perimeter of a triangle: 4x + 10
b) x = 6cm

13) Volume of Prism: 42 cm^3
14) Estimate for mean area of picture: 27.3 cm^2
15) Pythagoras' Theorem: 11.7 cm
16a) Standard Form: 3.2 x 10^-2
b) 15,800

17a) Probabiility: x = 0.25
b) 60 times

18) Inequalities: x = -1, 0 and 1
19) Trial and Improvement: x = 1.7
20) Calculating the normal price of the car: £6,500
21) Trigonometry: 64.8 degrees
22) Cumulative Frequency:
a) correct values in cumulative frequency table
b) correct graph
c) The median is about 36 marks, allow 1 either side
d) 64 students passed the examination, again allow 1 either side

23) Compound Interest: £2315.25
24) Direct Proportion

a) D = 0.01875 t^2
b) D = 76.8
c) t = 25.3

25) Area of a non-right angled triangle and cosine rule:

a) 152 m^2
b) 26.1m

26) Histograms:

a) The missing frequencies are 60 and 40 going down the table of values.
b) Bars drawn correctly at a frequency density of 10 and 4 respectively with the correct class interval length.

27) Bounds: the difference is 0.02054708 between the upper and lower bounds.

Hope this helps.

Hi is this the exact answers for the exam on Friday 13th June 2014 ?

Really? would you really ask that? If the answers were leaked then the GCSE exam would be cancelled and the back up paper will be taken.

omg I've done so bad; averaging 84+ on past papers and like 55 on this at best, i want to die fml

same! I have no idea why I did so badly, I remember coming out of the exam hall like 'sh*t how could I write an equation for a similar shapes question?!' totally blanked out, need to get like 100% in the next exam but that is impossible for someone with my capability, sigh.

It was a sarcastic 'cheers for that!' type comment, but in a friendly tone

15/10=1.5 scale factor
16x1.5 =24
30cm-24=6cm
x=6cm

Thanks but I want the question not the answer

4x+y=25
x-3y=16

27) Bounds: the difference is 0.02054708 between the upper and lower bounds.

Any chance you could show the workings for this one. I have nearly got that answer but must have gone wrong somewhere. I had the following:

T upper 6.2835
T lower 6.2825

L upper 1.365
L lower 1.355

g upper 9.85
g lower 9.75

then:
for upper bound 6.2835 x square root of 1.365/9.75
for lower bound 6.2825 x square root of 1.355/9.85

any ideas please?
You have made alot of people upset, why would you post something like this, its not even the official mark scheme.!
Original post by MUTTA
no its a definite B because say you got that in each paper thats 102/200

the highest grade boundaries ever 97 for a B

so its 100% a B

the paper was hard probably lower grade boundaries

Nov 2013 was 101 for a B

It is practically exact, I see nothing wrong with the answers.

the lower bound of L/G = 1.355/9.85 = 0.1375... or 271/1970
upper bound of L/G = 1.365/9.75 = 0.14

(6.283 x root of 0.14)-(6.2825 x root of 271/1970) = 0.02054708023
Do you guys remember exactly what questions 1 and 2 were

Did I say the answers were wrong? The question was not even for you, your opinion is not relevant. They give you method marks for some things and clearly the man that wrote the answers did not include them. And yes, people are upset because they are convinced that failed because of this man.
