Why is fresher's week so expensive?

I was reading an article in this student guide that was in the Times and it said something like 'this will be the most expensive week of your social life'. Is this true? Why?

To be honest, they ought to call it get pissed and get laid week - a far more accurate description.

Essentially, fresher's week is all about getting absolutely smashed, for seven days.

This costs money.

£80 for sports rec card
£15 atheltic unioun memebership
2 x £15 joining two clubs.

This will be your first week, aswell as normal food, self catering you are bound to eat out in town at least once, so food cost for this first week, £30.

Say you drink before you go out, but still get a few drinks when you are out and since its freshers week, you got out most days. Alchole cost for the week easily £70 if your modest about it.

Thats £225, probably will be more. Luckily for me, my parents said they will pay for my sports rec card and AU memebership, so thats £95 less i got to pay.

you don't necessarily 'have' to be wasted all week but generally you socialise more to meet new people, spending more cash.

I dont drink, so I guess it wont cost as much. Hooray for me....

i found the events cost as much to get entry to as drink, so it will still be hefty if you want to socialise, with/without alcohol.

ok sorry, just got that stuck in my head from full metal jacket.

i saved up £230 in pound coins and some notes since christmas!! that will b 4 freshers week!

Hehe good idea Kinkay Gema......I think I'm gonna set aside a weeks wages for Fresher's Week, and TRY not to spend it before I get there! Lol.

Iv been 'smashed' a couple of times, but these days i tend to drink in moderation.
