Live at home or stay in halls??

I'm going to be sorting UCAS stuff/ applying to Uni from September and I've finally managed to decide on a course that I'd like to apply to. My first choice University is a 45 minute drive from where I live and if I was offered a place there I'm debating on whether I'd stay at home and commute each day (if I lived at home I'd have a car to do so) or live there? I'll really enjoy joining societies and meeting new people but drinking, clubbing and nights out really aren't my thing, and I'd also save a lot of money by living at home. What are other people's experiences of living at home and commuting to Uni??
See this thread, it is very useful and based on whether you should live at home or in halls and will answer your question.
