Third Year Physics Formal Reports

I have heard that when writing formal reports you are forced to use LaTeX to typeset them. Is there any truth to that statement?

It will be dependant on your university and what journal style they want you to use. Some might be ok with equations built with Microsoft equation editor but others might insist that you use MathType or LaTeX. Also might depend slightly by what you mean by formal report too.
