I've just found out that a friend of mine has been doing an OU course for the past six months or so. She didn't want to tell anyone in case she fails her first exam and people think she isn't motivated enough. She's actually very organised and will do very well, I'm sure!
Is my friend a one-off or are there others who keep it quiet when they first start out because of concerns about failing/not completing etc?
Yes I told people when I registered. In fact, some knew before hand.
The only person I havent told is my gran as she's still reeling from the fact I quit Oxford brookes last year - She thinks anything less than a red-brick education isn't worth the paper its written on But at least this way i'm gonna get my degree & not end up with oodles of student debt, like I would have done had I stayed in oxford!
most people knew i was doing my course as soon as my high school offered to pay for me to do it - my geology teacher said in front of the class.
i geuss i was never really bothered by it, firstly because i was doing it when i was 16, and its pretty good to be able to get 90% in any uni course at that age, and secondly, because i knew that my overall degree wouldnt be coming from it (im at soton now)
