equity query

Hi guys,

Quick question. And apologises in advance, if i sound like a newb. I have noticed in some essays i have read that many people describe equity and common law as separate entities (e.g. in equity, x can claim this and that but under common, x can only claim for v and c). I understand that equity is a separate law on it's own but how do you go about writing in essays how things are different under the two. For example, i am studying charitable trusts right now. How would i go about in the exam , "under equity, in charitable trusts x can do this and under common , x can do this"?

When answering exam questions, do I have to always state how things are different between the two? I have read three topics so far and i have yet to seen any bit within the three that has stated that "in equity, x can do/claim this but in common, x can /claim this"

I hope, i have managed to explain myself clearly.

Thanks!
??
