More options for schools/colleges to choose from I guess, if they don't prefer a course from Exam Board X they have another option from Exam Board Y. If there was just one "almighty one" then you don't have that many options unless it offers variations of a similar subject like Edexcel do for Physics (Salters Horners and normal).

More powerfull. Exams boards like AQA probably dont make money at all, since they publish everything free of charge.
