The Student Room Group

Brace yourselves Sharia law is almost here

Labour faces a sexism row today after it defended the decision to segregate Muslim men and women at a party rally at an Islamic centre.Senior party figures, including Liam Byrne, Tom Watson and Harriet Harman's husband Jack Dromey, spoke at the event in Birmingham on Saturday even though men sat on one side of the room and women on the other.
Labour has denied that people were forced to sit separately based on gender - even though photographs from the event show that the groups were clearly segregated.
Critics called the decision 'sickening' and claimed that the party was 'selling values for votes' in order to get Ed Miliband into Downing Street.

The Tories introduced section 28 that made teaching children about homosexuality illegal, were against Civil Unions for gays and the majority voted against same sex marriage. Labour introduced the Equality act, the Human Rights act, gay Civil Unions and the majority voted for the same sex marriage act.

So lets be very careful when one attempts to discredit Labour over discrimination and religious pandering. Oh and vote Labour.

Regardless, values for votes. Disgusting and just shows what the Labour Party is all about. Anyone voting for them is either a minority or mentally deficient to put it bluntly.

Anyone thinking Labour are unique in pandering for votes is mentally deficient.

This is true. The Tories should not get too much credit for legalizing gay marriage, they had little to do with it. It was the left that has championed gay rights for decades while the Tories (including david Cameron) have been voting against gay marriage and against EVERY bill giving gay people equal rights up until 2010, they had nothing to do with the advancement of gay rights, in fact they set it back all the time. They jumped on the bandwagon because it was in their political interest, George Osborne has even admitted this when he talked about legalizing gay marriage he said they needed to do it because it was the smart thing to do politically, to 'modernize' the party, not because people should be given equal rights. The Tories have done nothing for gay people, ever.

It was not a big achievement, I mean if Labour or any other left wing party got into government, they would have legalized it as well. It would have happened anyway. The positive side is that this is the only case in the world so far where a conservative government was the one legalizing it, so that's great.

Most of them did not even vote for gay marriage, so they haven't changed much.

However, if people want to credit someone for gay marriage, credit Labour, the Greens, the liberals and the gays who never gave up.
