How big is the jump from GCSE to AS level?

I took examinations for 11 GCSEs this May/June 2015 and will be starting Advanced Subsidiary level coming September where I will be stuyding Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Electronics. I've been reading across the internet of how new Y12 students are shocked with the apparently huge jump from GCSE to AS level. How should I prepare for this jump? Should I start reading the specification topics for each individual subject, print past papers, buy the necessary textbooks and start preparing notes beforehand? Pls advise because I genuinely have absolutely no idea on how to approach AS level. I basically want to hit AS level running.
I thought the jump from GCSE to A-Levels was massive, I felt that GCSE's don't prepare you for the difference and I would recommened buying all of the books you need asap and start learning the topics now.
Will we seem huge until December. After Cheistmas it all makes a lot more sense, and it won't Suprise you any more.
