Trying to set up two people

My friend really likes this dude but she won't do anything about it. She's restricted by gender roles; she thinks he has to ask her for her number. My first question is how do I convince her to just grow a backbone and ask the guy? I'm tired of seeing this slow progression, it triggers feelings that I've repressed.

Question two is as follows. I secretly also have a major crush on this guy but I don't want to act on it. I think it would be far better for them to be together instead - it would force me to get over my pathetic feelings. How do I get over him? Please note: I am in a long distance relationship with an older woman (she's only 4 years my junior, I'm 18).

The last question is the most important of all. Does anyone have any good recipes for beef stew?
