Why do you celebrate Christmas if you're not Christian?

I don't celebrate Christmas as a Christian festival but I still celebrate it. Although several traditions have arisen from Christianity there are plenty of traditions not linked to Christianity. The idea of celebrating in midwinter was around well before Christianity decided it was "their" festival. I see it as a time of celebration, at a time when (the northern hemisphere) is at its darkest and most miserable weather, a chance to show good will, eat food, drink and be merry. There is absolutely no reason you can't celebrate those things from a non religious perspective.

Christianity may (wrongly) lay claim to the genesis of Christmas, but it has become something so much more now. Disappointingly for a lot of people it has actually become something I do not particularly enjoy. I do not enjoy the overt commercialisation of Christmas, obviously you can't avoid a bit, but I think for many it goes too far!

Christmas is for Christians because we are celebrating the birth of Jesus our Saviour. Other people are celebrating the commercialised aspect of Christmas which is wrong because it detracts from the real meaning of the celebration. Christmas is not about presents, christmas trees, santa, etc but about the birth of Christ, hence the CHRISTmas.

No it's not, Christmas is to celebrate christ, Jesus Christ and his birthday like any other religion so i highly disagree a non christian shouldn't celebrate christmas it's in the name as well Christ - mas, it's like a christian like me celebrating Eid a muslims celebration it's just wrong in my eyes.

I'm not Christian but I celebrate Christmas. I don't attend a church service but I have a Christmas tree, Christmas dinner, do presents etc. It's a part of British culture and I'm British. It's nice to take part in a holiday where everyone is so jolly etc and embrace another religion's holiday.

Christmas is not British culture, Christmas is celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ it’s CHRISTmas for a reason not BRITmas
