Hi thanks for your question. It is a basic questions similar to GCSE level C or Numeracy level 2. You are allowed to use calculator and it is half an hour test.
Hope that helps.

Hey Suzie,

It is basic maths such as ratio, add, subtract, BODMAS, division, fraction, time, drop rate, drug calculations etc.

Calculator is permitted, so bring a nice scientific calculator.

There's 30 questions and you need 18 and above to pass the maths test.

For the English test, there's two parts to it. There is a multiple choice questions an d an essay style question.

You need 9/15 for each part to pass the English test.

Overall, don't panic too much and try your best.

All the best

Hi
Thanks for your question. The English test will be similar to GCSE level C or Literacy Level 2. It is always a good idea to read news about nursing, and update yourself about current topics and discussions.

This test of how busy I was last week: This week was totally different to last six weeks. Normally,when I have teaching lessons at the Middlesex University, I only attend twodays a week, Wednesdays (9am-12pm) and Thursdays (9am-12pm). Although, thereare some extra days for mandatory training such as Manual Handling, LifeSupport Training and Breakaway Techniques, however, I only have these mandatorytraining once a year. However, my courseis postgraduate diploma, thus I am expected to do approximately 20hours of independentresearch and reading. This week was my first week in placement. Normally, firstweek of placement if 9am-5pm Monday to Friday. It was a relaxing week, becauseclinical placements do consider students their first week of new placementuntil they get to grips of how the placement operates. However, I am in my third year, therefore, my mentor hadvery high expectations from me. On my first day of the placement, she allowedme to lead a mental health assessment when we visited one of her regularservice users. This was an excellent experience for me because I need topractice my interviewing skills for my final oral examination, and this wasalso an excellent opportunity to speak to a service user with mood disorders ashe had a diagnosis of Bipolar Affective Disorder. On my second day of placement, mentor and I set down anddiscussed about my learning objectives. One of my learning objectives was totake a leadership role in nursing. Therefore, she suggested that I present aservice user we were to visit to the multi-disciplinary meeting next day andthat I take a leading role in terms of how we should manage her mental healthdiagnosis. This service user had a diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia. My third of the placement, duty manager requested me to staywith him in the office as he had two service users visiting the Crisis HomeTreatment office. As their appointment was early in the morning, I was giventhe opportunity to read about their cases, and interview them when they come tooffice under the supervision of the duty manager. One of these service usershad a diagnosis of severe depression, while the other had a diagnosis of EmotionallyUnstable Personality Disorder. Third and fourth day of my placement, I did more home visitsand felt confident in leading assessments. My last day of the week, was a veryinteresting one, because I was able to give antipsychotic injection to one ourservice users. I had done 37.5hrs of placement this week, and I am supposedto do 8 weeks. So, first week of placement is done. Saturday was a family day for me and Sunday I did a bankshift in Psychiatric Liaison in a my local A&E. 5<NΡ}

Does this mean that funding would only cover the post graduate diploma for the first year and we would have to fund the second year ourselves?
Hi Nuradin

I wondering if you can answer a question for me? I have my entrance test for Middlesex on Saturday.

I have read several items that are contradictory.

The numeracy, you mention drop rates, I dont know anything about this?

Secondly the literacy is it just the 400 word essay on a given subject or a multiply choice comprehension?

Many thanks

This week has been a busy week forme, as usual! Three long days at placement (8am-8pm), half day (9am-1pm) atschool nursing event as a representative for the nursing course plus two bankshift at the weekend. I attended this event which was well managed and organized.I am pleased with this event because the feedback I got from the students wasbrilliant and I was able to change some of them their mind in terms of careerin nursing and first-hand experience in nursing at Middlesex University. I wasalso asked many questions and I was able to network with other professionalssuch as social workers.Furthermore, this week was third weekof my placement. I am currently with Crisis Resolution Home Treatment, and thisis my first placement as third year mental health nursing student. This weekwas relaxing week for me because I was not expected to do work in terms mypractice assessment document, however, my practice link lecturer was coming tovisit me and see how I am doing or if I had any problems in terms theplacement. So I was able to focus on the clinical work and plan my learningoutcomes. As third year student I am expectedto develop skills and knowledge required to lead a shift and be an independentmental health nursing. This week I was able to focus on clinical decisionmaking and leadership roles. In nursing setting this is the bread and the butterof the profession. We should be able to manage shifts and at the same time be arole model to those who we work with us. Eighty percept of the managers anddirectors in the NHS have a nursing background qualification, hence the coreessential skill required is leadership and decision-making.In addition, and fortunately, thisweek, I was able to present referral cases to the multidisciplinary team withthe help of my mentor. I felt confident in discussion with the team members andplanning meetings. At my placement, we have more than 35staff and the nursing staffs made up of more than 90% of the staff. Forexample, the manager is nurse, duty manager is nurse and we only have twodoctors and one psychologist in our team. The rest of the team are made up ofnurses. Therefore, this is evidence that nurses are the heart of NHS,especially in the community.Furthermore, this week I was readinga research paper which was addressing the assessments done by liaison mentalhealth nurses compared to assessment done by junior doctors. This researchfound out that there were no differences in terms of outcome. Actually andinterestingly, liaison mental health nurses based in A&E did better thanthe doctors in terms of caring out comprehensive psychosocial assessments.

Hi
I straggle to answer your question, but I think if this funding cuts happens during your first year, it will not effect you as you are already a student. Currently, the funding is still there, so I recommend you apply as soon as possible.

Hope that helps.
