I can give a qualitative opinion - I think that it's a bit of a coincidence that Chinese Medicine is always contingent upon rare Chinese stuff that can only be sourced through some mountain in Shanxi province or something. It's never dandelions or stinging nettles that can magically cure impotence or IBS.

Further, I'm pretty sure that a majority of Chinese Medicine shops in the UK are linked to organised crime. There is simply no way that there can be a sensible mathematical case for the proliferation of the shops with respect to the number of users. I suspect that a large number of them offer sexual services, whilst others are simply for money laundering.

In some parts of London, TCM shops outnumber traditional pharmacies. Yet the number of people using TCM must be lower than the number of people using pharmacies by several orders of magnitude. How is this a realistic or sustainable business model?
